HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD: A RECORD BREAKING SUMMER

Hollywood crosses the $4 billion mark for the summer season! With a near-endless list of big-name sequels and movies based on franchises, forecasts were records to be smashed. So far the strong summer schedule has pushed box office revenue to 8 percent higher than 2006!

Sequels contributing to the record-breaking summer were successes like Spider Man 3 which kicked off Hollywood's big summer with a debut weekend of $151.1 million, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End which set sail at the box office with a 4-day Memorial Day weekend total of $156.1 million, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix grossed an all-time high of $139 million for a 5-day total.

Original films such as Transformers, The Simpsons and Superbad, all fared better than expected over the past several weeks. Halloween, released over Labor Day weekend, performed well beyond good. It slashed Transporter 2 ($20.1M in 2006) to become the largest Labor Day opening of all time!

As the summer draws to a close, fans keep heading to theatres, as the top 10 movies for the Labor Day weekend grossed an estimated $114M, up 28% vs. the same time a year ago.

Now is the time to work with Screenvision Direct. Don't miss out on the incredible fall movie-lineup with stars like George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman returning to the big screen.
