OSCAR BUZZ BEGINS...
Oscar season is approaching fast. The blockbuster performances in 2006 such as "The Devil Wears Prada" and "The Queen"
are expected to garner sure-fire Oscar nods, along with Martin Scorsese's, "The Departed," which has shown tremendous box office potential,
surpassing the 100 million dollar mark. As you know, box office prowess is an important (although not deal-breaking) criteria when it comes
to best picture consideration. This could be Scorsese's year! According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "Little Miss Sunshine,"
is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Audiences have embraced it to the tune of $60 million, and even hardened Academy voters can't
be immune to its considerable charm. It is this year's "Lost in Translation" and "Sideways."
According to Variety.com, it is known the fourth quarter (close to the Academy Awards) is statistically the best time to release a film,
but contenders can bow at virtually any time of year. Some of the top contenders that were released in December include "Dreamgirls"
starring Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy, the post World War II tale, "The Good German," starring George Clooney and Cate Blanchett and
"The Pursuit of Happyness," starring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. Four of the last five Oscar winners which included "Million
Dollar Baby," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," "Chicago" and "A Beautiful Mind" arrived in December while the champion,
"Crash," was released in May.
The 79th Annual Academy Awards which is scheduled to be broadcasted live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on February 25,
2007, will be hosted by comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. To refresh your memory, Ellen, an Emmy winner herself,
hosted the 2005 Emmy Awards and did a phenomenal job. There's no doubt DeGeneres will bring humor and energy to this year's
award show.
It will be extremely interesting to see what unfolds at the awards show this year. As we all know anything can happen. Happy Oscar hunting!

Andy Malone
Malone Insurance Agency
"I first used the theatre advertising when Commonwealth opened 5 years ago. It was a huge hit! We had people from miles away say
they had seen us at the movies. That public awareness lasted long after my contract had expired which was a nice bonus. I was
especially curious to see how the same advertising would do 5 years later... it's been awesome!"
Cindy Shumaker
