Screenvision Extends Nationwide Digital Advertising Network Through Expanded Relationship With Consolidated Theatres
New York, NY - (May 31, 2006)
New Agreement Expands Screenvision’s High-Definition Digital Preshow Network and Adds Exclusive Promotions Representation Rights
In a move that grows its nationally-distributed high-definition digital network, leading cinema advertising company Screenvision has expanded its relationship with Consolidated Theatres, a premier regional movie theatre owner and operator based in Charlotte, N.C. with theatres throughout the Southeastern United States including Washington D.C.; Atlanta, Ga.; Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Wilmington, N.C.; Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston, S.C.; and Norfolk, Richmond, and Roanoke, Va.. The agreement with Consolidated Theatres, known for its state-of-the-art multiplex venues and amenities including advanced stadium seating, wall-to-wall screens and gourmet concessions, bolsters Screenvision’s digital network distribution in support of national advertisers and enables new digitally-based marketing opportunities for regional advertisers in these areas.
Screenvision is currently the exclusive cinema advertising agent for Consolidated Theatres’ 358 screens, and will continue to manage its national, regional, and local on-screen advertising sales. Under the expanded agreement, Screenvision becomes the exclusive agent representing Consolidated for sales of in-lobby promotions activity and media, including lobby posters, popcorn bags, box office handouts, and exit sampling. Screenvision will also deploy its high-definition digital network across all Consolidated Theatres screens.
“Consolidated Theatres is an exceptional exhibitor with well-positioned multiplexes throughout the Southeastern United States,” explained Matthew Kearney, chief executive officer of Screenvision. “We are delighted they have selected our high-definition digital cinema solution and our popular preshow for their audiences, which will contribute to a more dynamic movie-going experience in all Consolidated Theatre venues.”
Screenvision intends its high-definition digital network distribution to reach 5,000 screens by December 2006, largely concentrated in the top 50 U.S. DMAs. This agreement brings the current count to over 2,500 screens. The rollout of the digital network in subsequent years is expected to total more than 10,000 screens of Screenvision’s total 14,000 screens nationwide.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Screenvision,” said Herman Stone, president and chief executive officer of Consolidated Theatres. “Based on Screenvision’s record with other major exhibitors around the country, we are looking forward to enhancing our customers’ movie going experiences with this dynamic and engaging digital program, while securing new revenue opportunities.”
Screenvision’s high-definition digital network enables exhibitors to present Screenvision’s unique, entertainment-based digital preshow. Screenvision’s host-format enables a seamless presentation of a variety of content forms, including branded entertainment, short films, cartoons and advertising content. The high-definition network and server technology also facilitates the screening of alternative content such as film series, children’s programming, anime programming and live sports broadcasts. “
Consolidated will join our roster of national exhibitor partners that have seen tremendous revenue enhancements through our digital network and entertainment preshow,” added Darryl Schaffer, executive vice president of exhibitor relations for Screenvision. “Exhibitors want to present an enjoyable, entertaining preshow experience for their moviegoers. Our preshow is specifically produced to enable that, and our research shows that the overwhelming majority of consumers enjoy the Screenvision digital preshow.”
Screenvision is the first cinema advertising company to create a hosted format, akin to a television program, for the presentation of cinema advertising content. As part of this strategy, the company has produced and aired several popular specials including October 2005’s “SCREAMvision”, celebrating the horror genre during the Halloween season; December 2005’s “Home for the Holidays,” a holiday special featuring original animated shorts; and February 2006’s “Screenvision Rolls Out the Red Carpet,” produced in collaboration with E! Entertainment Networks in celebration of awards season.
