SCREENVISION TO SHOWCASE AMERICAN IDOL STAR AND RCA RECORDS/ 19 RECORDINGS ARTIST KATHARINE MCPHEE IN APRIL PRESHOW
New York - (March 13, 2007)
High Definition Digital Preshow Features Soundtrack and Music
Video From McPhee's Self-Titled Debut Album
Screenvision, a leading cinema advertising company, will showcase the music of Katharine McPhee to moviegoers across the country per an agreement with RCA Records/19 Recordings, a unit of
Sony BMG Music Entertainment. The “American Idol” star, whose self-titled
album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 Charts, will kick-off Screenvision’s new
“Featured Artist of the Month” cinema advertising preshow series. Terms of the
agreement were not disclosed.
McPhee, who placed second in “American Idol” season five, was signed to RCA
Records/19 Recordings in 2005. Her self-titled debut album was released on
January 30, 2007 and sold more than 115,000 copies in its first week.
Beginning March 23, Screenvision’s preshow will preview McPhee’s music video
for her debut single, “Over It,” as well as additional tracks from her album,
including “Love Story” and “Each Other,” across Screenvision’s nationwide
network of high-definition digital screens.
“Research proves that the movie-going audience is an ideal target market for the
music industry,” said Matthew Kearney, president and chief executive officer of
Screenvision. “Our young and affluent moviegoers are pre-disposed to music
interests across a wide variety of genres, making cinema advertising a smart
marketing investment for artists and their labels. Featuring music talent via the
Screenvision preshow also brings high-value entertainment content to the moviegoer
and our exhibitor partners so this kind of program is a clear win for all
parties.”
Under the agreement, Screenvision will also use its preshow to drive moviegoers to
McPhee’s website, www.katharinemcphee.com, and offer patrons the opportunity
to text a code with their cell phones to find out more about her new “Over It”
ringtone or to join McPhee’s mobile updates.
“The movie theatre environment is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to market rising
stars like Katharine, as well as to support the upcoming product of established
artists,” said Hugh Surratt, SVP of Marketing, RCA Records. “The impact of the
big screen and the format of Screenvision’s hosted preshow offer a truly unique
vehicle for promoting music.”
Screenvision is the only cinema advertising company that exhibits a hosted preshow
program. Offering a hosted program, in addition to producing original
entertainment content such as short films and cartoons, is part of the company’s
over-arching strategy to ensure that the cinema advertising preshow is a positive
and entertaining part of the overall movie-going experience.
