Screenvision, a leading cinema
advertising services company, has expanded its relationship with Clearview
Cinemas, a Chatham, N.J.-based exhibitor and subsidiary of Cablevision Systems
Corporation. Under the new long-term contract, Screenvision retains exclusive
rights to sell local, regional and national advertising on Clearview’s 258 screens,
which are located primarily in the New York DMA. Screenvision also gains rights
to sell advertising on Clearview’s in-lobby plasma screens as well as rights to sell
in-lobby promotional programs in Clearview theatres.
Under the agreement, Screenvision will install and operate its high-definition digital
network on all Clearview screens. Screenvision’s digital network delivers, via
satellite, the company’s digital entertainment movie preshow. The network is also
capable of delivering alternative content programs such as kids programming,
concerts, sports programming, and other entertainment content and is compatible
with 2K and 4K digital cinema projection systems. Installation of the network on
Clearview screens will raise Screenvision’s digital network distribution in 2007 to
more than 6,800 of their nearly 15,000 screens nationwide.
“Our expanded partnership with Clearview Cinemas underscores the value of
Screenvision’s digital services offering,” said Matthew Kearney, president and chief
executive officer of Screenvision. “Our ability to deliver a consumer-friendly digital
entertainment preshow, to support exhibitor interests in alternative content
programming, and to work side-by-side with any “Big D” solution the exhibitor
prefers is unique in the industry.”
Clearview Cinemas operates 52 theatres with 258 screens; 250 of the company’s
screens are in the New York DMA, the country’s largest metropolitan market, and
eight screens are in the Philadelphia, PA DMA, the country’s fourth-largest market.
Clearview also owns and operates New York City’s Ziegfeld Theatre, one of the
country’s most-famous movie palaces and the location of countless movie
premieres and red-carpet events.
“Our top priority is to provide our patrons with a positive movie-going
experience,” said Doug Oines, senior vice president and general manager of
Clearview Cinemas. “Screenvision digitizing our theatres and providing a firstclass
entertainment preshow helps us reach that goal. Screenvision will also enable
2
us to incorporate content from our parent company, Cablevision, from such assets
as American Movie Classics, Independent Film Channel, Radio City Music Hall,
and our sports properties including the New York Rangers and the New York
Knicks.”
Darryl Schaffer, executive vice president of exhibitor relations for Screenvision,
added: “Flexibility is our core objective in serving Clearview, and all Screenvision
exhibitors. There has never been a more dynamic or challenging period in the
movie business. Our exhibitor services are based on custom offerings that help our
partners meet changing market demands while entertaining movie-goers and driving
incremental revenue.”
