Matthew Kearney

Matthew Kearney

President & Chief Executive Officer

Since joining Screenvision in 2002, Matthew Kearney has helped grow the organization from a newly formed joint venture to one of the country’s Top 100 media and entertainment companies. Under his leadership, Screenvision has dramatically grown its network and broadened its offerings while establishing a culture of innovation and creativity. As President, CEO and Board Member, Kearney sets the overall direction and strategy for the company.

During his tenure, Screenvision has become of one the leading innovators in the industry, offering advertisers multiple platforms to reach and engage consumers and pioneering many cinema “firsts,” including the first live ad in cinema, the first 3D ad, the first mobile coupon redemption network and the first interactive polling and gaming program.

Kearney has also expanded Screenvision’s content offerings, both by establishing a programming services division to help movie exhibitors attract new audiences and expand profitability during off-peak hours, and by inking long-term deals with marquee entertainment, media and sports organizations, such as NASCAR, to provide moviegoers with relevant, entertaining preshow content.

Kearney’s guidance has helped transform cinema advertising from a small fragmented industry to one of the most highly measured, impactful and trusted national media. He was instrumental in working with Nielsen Media to develop CinemaCumeTM, the industry's first comprehensive measurement application for reach and frequency of moviegoing audiences. And as founding chairman and president of the Cinema Advertising Council, the industry's trade association, Kearney drove the industry to develop proprietary tools that standardize cinema audience measurement.

Throughout his career, Kearney has quickly distinguished himself as a key strategist and inspired contributor. Prior to joining Screenvision, he was a member of the Carlton Communications team responsible for business development. Demonstrating initiative from the start, Kearney developed Carlton into a major rights owner, acquiring the film and TV libraries of Rank and ITC and Bob Geldoff’s Planet 24, producer of Big Breakfast and the first major reality show, Survivor. Kearney was also responsible for Carlton’s entry into cinema advertising and its launch of entertainment-destination and search engine sites, including Ask Jeeves UK. Kearney left Carlton as head of its new media division and an officer of the company.

Prior to his move to media and entertainment, he worked at British Aerospace and leading UK private equity firm 3i Plc. He holds a BSc degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Manchester University and an MBA from London Business School.

A UK national, Kearney moved to the US in 2002. He enjoys spending time with his family, running and playing tennis, following his soccer team, and, of course, going to the cinema and theatre.
